Re: Should we be talking about a Big Sexy reunion?

As far as I can tell, the basis for this whole "rumor" stems from some off-hand remarks given to the Pioneer Press by Twins hurler Ervin Santana. HE mentioned Colon and the Mets but it's not apparent that either Colon or the Mets have yet to mention each other. * and the Mets now claim to...

Re: Prospect Watch - winter 2017/18

BA tabs Andres Gimenez as their #94 prospect ... and there were those who said that the Mets wouldn't land anyone in the Top-100 this year.
How wrong they were!!

Re: This cannot go on much longer.

Rumor has the Brewers making an offer to Darvish -- something that might make a dent in the FA logjam -- although no word yet as to how much, how long, or even how true.

Re: Larry Nassar

Juliet Macur of the NY Times talks about how the USOC needs to take control over USA Gymnastics but has, so far, chosen to sit on the sidelines as if nothing is wrong -- although three members of USA Gymnastics have now resigned since that piece ran.

Re: Memories of Chasen Bradford

My memories of Chasen Bradford are hazy as I tend to conflate him with Chasen Sanborn, even though Bradford is much more mellow.
Sanborn always played like he was overly-caffeinated.

Re: Rankings Project 2017

Second post of last year's Ranking thread (1/4/17):

(Didn't we?)

I suggest that the mods put Seawolf into the concussion protocol; there seems to be a trend here.

Re: This cannot go on much longer.

This year's group can hardly expect 50 million. All the top guys have serious concerns and none play a premium position I bet if we were to dig up one of those early off-season prediction columns baseball writers seem to be required to write each year that there'd be projections of $100mil+ contrac...

Re: This cannot go on much longer.

Maybe the players are simply holding out for too much based on recents trends that they thought were sure to continue? Joe Posnanski on mlb.com points out the most recent $150 mil or higher signings: Dec 2011, Albert Pujols -- 10 years/$240 -- that one hasn't turned out well now has it? Jan 2012, Pr...

Rankings Project 2017

Thought I forgot about this, eh? ... Not Bloody Likely!! Actually, I kind of did. At first I didn't want to step on Grimm's Tabloid Project, then I figured it best to wait until after the holidays ... and THEN I forgot about it. But now, with P&C only a few weeks away, it's back and better than ...

Re: Apropos of Small Things and What Not 2018

When buying beer at a supermarket, those self-scan checkout gizmos require that store personnel approve your alcohol purchase before allowing you to continue. I've suggested to the people who come by to make sure I'm of age that if they'd just program the scanner to scan my rapidly graying hair at t...

Re: Larry Nassar

I'm not dismissing the shame it brought to PSU, merely pointing out that the remedy in the form of erasing Paterno's name was all done after the fact and long after it could help the kids, kids who were adults by the time the University got around to acknowledging that they failed to acknowledge wha...

Re: Tick Tock Jeurys

Yup. I'm one of those that don't care about game time at all. If there were measures in place to shorten the work day, I'd be out picketing in support of it. But baseball games? Let's play forever. Except that we're not getting anything extra for all the extra time we're being forced to invest. 198...

Re: Larry Nassar

Okay, for the record PSU expunged Paterno's name from everything, including the Paterno library. Only many years after the child abuse had gone on and after at least some folks within the PSU football team knew what was going on but decided instead that covering their own asses and not tainting &qu...

Re: Larry Nassar

... As centerfield said, how can others surrounding US gymnastics not be aware of (or worse yet, possibly tolerate and cover up) his mistreatment of these young women. The same way Penn State did and the same way the Catholic church did: by deciding that protecting the brand/organization (and, by e...

Re: Tick Tock Jeurys

Buck Showalter makes that argument all the time, except that he says no one cares about game times except the writers and umpires - and I think part of the reason the players haven't gotten on board with this (aside from pitchers and hitters coming at things from an opposite viewpoint) is that they ...

Re: Tick Tock Jeurys

We can dream about cutting between inning breaks all we want but: a) those times are set into contracts with networks both local and national so it's not something Manfred would, or even could, simply alter by decree. And that's all before he'd need to get around to telling the lords of the realm th...

Tick Tock Jeurys

Not to pick on Familia who, at least as far as I know, isn't particularly slow in delivering pitches (at least for a reliever) ... but I just couldn't resist the pun. Anyway, with the talks between the player's union and the commissioner's office once again breaking down over the topic of pace of pl...

Re: Larry Nassar

Put another way, this gymnastics story is being covered by news departments while the Penn State story was covered by news + sports, heavily on the latter. Somehow, despite this being a very large and very diverse country consisting of 1/3 of a billion people, and despite sports coverage being large...

Because much (probably most) of the Sandusky story was over how this would affect "Joe Pa" and the PSU football team - y'know, the things those covering it within the sports world actually cared about.
