Re: Projected 2018 Roster

As much as I liked his story and his spunk, McGowan sorta came off as fake news to me. He looks like a good candidate for a long career in the Atlantic League.

Re: We don't seem to be talking about Eduardo Nuñez

I think I am a Harrison man.

I think Sandy is pretty good at the Magic Quotes. One way to interpret "it's more likely we'll sign a FA" is "Pirates are currently driving too hard a bargain but I'm a patient man."

I'm also not giving up on Jason Kipnis

Re: Backing vocals that you probably (tho not necessarily) k

Yvonne Elliman ("If I Can't Have You" from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack) was one of the backup singers on Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Blvd. album. I'm not a Clapton fan per se but gotdamn I love "Mainline Florida." I could put it on a loop. I also quite like "Let It Gro...

Re: Josh Harrison, He's Somebody Folks Talk About

I'll bet they can reel in Harrison without Zimmo.

Harrison wants out of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh doesn't have that much use for him. It's similar to the Walker situation a few years back.

Unless the contenders for him get too frothy I'd bet that Nido and Callahan gets it done. WRITE IT DOWN

Re: Talking 'Bout Andrew McCutchen ... Again

The Giants are pretty idiosyncratic as an organization, aren't they? They're liable to do these things every so often that don't make a ton of sense to the general baseball world -- I'm thinking of their Barry Zito deal a few years back -- but at the least they can give the org a little new life and...

I kinda like him for his D and speed. Plus the Mets need a brother in the clubhouse.

Re: The ice was here, the ice was there. 2017-18 hockey thre

Another thrilling Islanders game. They give you a show every night. A shitshow sometimes, but s show nonetheless. Tonight they were outshot something like 50-20, blew a pair of 2-goal leads, lost another defenseman to injury, and won in OT at Montreal.

Re: Nuanced Poll: Adrian Gonzalez

Smith would do well to become what Gonzalez was. The question is who will be more Gonzalez-like in 2018.

Lots of fans couldn't wait for the Duda Era to end but it appears the Mets pushed it.

Re: So now what? (Remaining relievers)

We saw a little of Callahan and Rhame last season but I couldn't say if either distinguished themselves.

I'm counting down the days until the Drew Smith Era begins.

Re: First Base and the Opening Day Roster

Maybe the decision the Mets are really wrestling with isn't Smith vs. Gonzalez but Smith vs. Peter Alonso. Alonso definitely still needs minor league time; and you could argue Smith does too. So Gonzo starts the year and it's a Davis-Duda thing, only in AA/AAA. Alonso and Smith are about the same ag...

Re: Addison Reed to the Twins

Like I said in the arbitration post, trading for Ramos at the deadline looks very bad right now. I think Reed would have improved the Mets more than Bruce does, unless the Conforto injury is worse than it looks. But I'll judge the offseason when it is over. I dunno, man. Yeah, they're all different...
