Jacob by day, put it away. Robert Stephenson provides the opposition in conjunction with his Reds teammates.

"That pitch was a foot off the strike zone!" "The catcher framed it for the ump." "Framed?" "Yes, he helped the ump turn the pitch into a strike." "But it didn't cross the plate." "Naturally."

Taijeron Hit Watch is on.

Also, postseason eligibility trade deadline is today and Cabrera is in the starting lineup.

Also, Zimmo is our cleanup hitter.

Also, Cecchini can't buy a start as Reyes is at 2B today.
Let me tell you something: I have a big set of balls.

This is the lineup Terry is backing his ace with.

  1. Jose Reyes, 2b
  2. Amed Rosario, ss
  3. Asdrubal Cabrera, 3b
  4. Brandon Nimmo, lf
  5. Travis d'Arnaud, c
  6. Dominic Smith, 1b
  7. Juan Lagares, cf
  8. Travis Taijeron, rf
  9. Jacob deGrom, sp

And Sol Katz thinks he has a big set of balls.

Go, Terry, go!

This game is happening guys. Mets down 3-2, but we have a Taijeron hit in captivity.

Good thing we're facing the ML's worst pitching staff in a hitter's park, eh?
4, 2, and 2 runs so far over 25 total innings.
Would that i'twere so simple

This game was a real drag.

This entire series was a dud outside of Montero's outing.
Bad hitting, bad base-running, not great fielding, yadda yadda

This wasn't a great team when at least some subset of Bruce, Cespedes, Conforto, Duda, and Granderson were on the active roster. With all five of them gone for the season, it's going to be a long slog through September. I'm thinking of it as early spring training for 2018.

I hear ya. Good thing I love the game itself or this month coming up would be unbearable.

One thing I'm realizing is we simply have to adjust our expectations with these SHaMmiest of SHaMs. I mean, they suck. Unable to win a series, prone to slumps and dumb plays etc etc etc. I mean the Reds fucked us up the butt in this series.

Believe me when I say you're not missing much. Uninspired baseball. deGrom was not on his game :(
Except maybe this:

In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, "I have finished." There is a lot of satisfaction in that - Fred Lebow

lol. Agreed.

Fun stat for the games in Cinn:
This was the first series of the season in which the Mets failed to hit a homerun.

When you lose and/or give up 3/4 of your offense -- as Granderson, Walker, Bruce, Duda, Cespedes, and Conforto essentially all disappeared during a two week window -- it's tough to expect good things.
This is now a team which has topped four runs just once in the last 12 games and the note above about it being the first series without hitting a HR is stunning considering who and where they were just playing.

This was the first series all year in which the Mets played consecutive games in less than 2:45, perhaps reflecting an accelerated desire by both teams to get the season over with.
