There have been some contests decided by a flood of votes at the last minute, sort of like a Chicago election.

OK. No one's gonna be allowed to vote close in time to the previous voter. How about one vote per day per contest? Is that OK with you?

Not what I meant. What I proposed was like the stickers they give out saying "I voted". Everyone who votes should add to the thread and say "I voted". Those posts should equal the number of votes tallied. Like an accounting control, so nobody could sign on with their multiple (old) screen names to vote again.

We're up to 13 participants:

1 LWFS

3 marathon
4 ceetar
5 seawolf
6 zvon
7 G-Fafif
8 irish
9 fman

Three more participants and we can have an elimination tournament without any byes or play-ins. With 13 players, the first elimination round will consist of five showdowns and three first round byes awarded -- that'll get us into the round of eight.

Thank you for clarifying. Each contest (or bracket) (or square-off) (or hoedown) (or showdown) (wasn't this in the NYT Dialect Quiz, too?) will be run as a poll. I believe that the poll mechanism prevents anyone from voting more than once. Unless the mods have a secret hack. Or unless there are members here with multiple ID's. I don't know how to prevent that sort of abuse, but I'm open to suggestions.

By all means please do, don't worry about slowing things down. The pace of these things should suit you.

The new guy, Trachsel, makes the list. Did anybody tell him he's gotta sing the Schaefer Jingle? Initiation stuff.

Here's a thread from the 2009 CPF song parody contest, to give you an idea of the kind of stuff that goes on here.

Here's an oldie from Centerfield, channeling the Sex Pistols and The Ramones to give us his ode to Paul Wilson. CF was late and broke every rule in the contest. But it was worth it.

Centerfield wrote:Sorry about the wait. Is this song going to get me disqualified? Yup. Is it worth it? Yup. I think it really demonstrates where I am as a fan right about now.

Anyway, the subject is Paul Wilson. The song is the closing theme to the Flintstones.

Wilpons! Fuck the Wilpons!
They're a fucking fuckhead family.
Caustic, moron, shitbags,
they're the worst owners in history.

Someday, maybe Fred will see the light,
and he'll sell this team and end our plight.

Wilpons! Fuck the Wilpons!
They are fucking fuckhead fuckclowns.
They fuck their dachshunds.
They're fucking asshole sluts!

(banging on door) Wilson!!!

OK. I couldn't carry a tune if it were strapped to my back, but I'll just call my good friend Bernie Madoff Taupin.

Count me in for the round of 16.

We've got 16. Anyone else want in? We're still open for business, even though any more entrants and I'm gonna have to decide who has to "play-in" to the Round of 16, which won't be anywhere near as popular as awarding first round byes.

We're down to 15 again. I mistakenly counted MFS62 in, but upon further review, he's on the fence.

In like Doug. But there are no "spots". We're taking everyone. Anyone can play.

We're up to 16. I'll keep this thread open thru the weekend. Some members might still be on the fence. Others, perhaps, went away for the holidays and haven't checked in here recently. On Monday, I'll get this tournament rolling with brackets, randomly generated pairings, Met Topics, and deadlines.

I'll put up the brackets and topics tomorow. Anyone else want in? This year, you'll be playing for the Crane Pool Kranepool Cup.
