Charlie Daniels is in the conversation. Saw his show right when the devil song came out. He blew the roof off the barn.

Good call.

Well, his tongue was planted firmly in his fiddle case, if you know what I mean.

Stuck on the Hutchinson this morning listening to The Spectrum, Christine Stone said Mark Knopfler has come out and said Dire Straits will not be playing the induction.

Boo! Hoping he changes his mind before then.

John Illsley and Pick Withers have both been reported to be suffering from Industrial Disease.

I don't know if co-founder David Knopfler, who played on the first two and 1/2 records, is on the list of inductees, but I always had the idea that he and Mark make Liam and Noel Gallagher look like BFFs.

Pick left the band early on for whatever. I played with Mark once at Alex's music on 48th st. way back when. He is gifted and David maybe not as much and that is the issue.

Some similarity to the relationship of Ray and Dave Davies.

Sibling issues.

I read once that if you put three or more brothers in a band: Jacksons, Cowsills, Wilsons, Osmonds, Timmins, and everything is peachy. It's all good with brothers and sisters, too: Carpenters, Donny & Marie.

But with two brothers and no more, there's always a safe hanging over your head: Everlys, Davieses, Gallaghers, Knopflers, etc. Yeah, you got your Allmans and your Radioheads where there's no reported strife, but I bet there's shit we don't know. Devo had two sets of brothers, and they managed, I think, but their lineup was always changing, so who knows? I betcha it helps when neither brother is the frontman, like with AC/DC or VH. Radiohead qualifies there, too.

I imagine bands with twins (Breeders, Proclaimers, Spandaus) do alright also. They got that, "We speak each other's unspoken language" thing going for them. Maybe marathon can enlighten us.

Agreed on 2 brothers. I have one and we spike up and down and are becoming closer with aging and loss.

Girls? Don't know. Ashie1 had one sister and they were very close.

Marathon. You're up.

Fun fact I learned about the Moody Blues. The band had 3 top 10 hits in the United States:

One in the 1960s - "Go Now" (#10 in 1964)
One in the 1970s - "Nights in White Satin (#2 in 1972, even though this was a reissue of a song released in 1967)
One in the 1980s - "Your Wildest Dreams (#1 in 1986)

They're the only band to have to have all their top ten hits in different decades. Starkly different songs too - from British Invasion pop to psychedelic symphonic rock to adult contemporary synthpap.

I suppose in baseball terms this makes them compilers.
Mr. Met knows; he's seen some shit.

I went into Alex's music to look at guitars. I was the only customer and Alex was up front. Apparently Alex wants to go to lunch and a car pulls up. Knopfler gets out and comes in to cover the store. He is sitting at the desk, head down reading a comic book.

It's Ashie and Mark Knopfler alone together. I pick a guitar , think abit, and decide to play Sultans of Swing. My version is passable he does not look up.

I decide to leave. I hear as I'm walking in a brit accent "nice job kid. come here."

He took a guitar and I played the song with him. He was kind regarding what I was unable to do. Learned a riff or three. I left in kinda a daze and went back to Joisey.

The End.

Original MOODY BLUES member Ray Thomas won't be at the R&R-HoF ceremony as he died this week in England at age 76

Joins Joe Strummer (and maybe others) who died between the announcement and the induction. Per Mick Jones the Clash were going to do a one-time set for their induction.

Dave Clark Five singer Mike Smith died only 11 days before his induction ceremony. One narrative suggested it was at least a little extra tragic, because they were allegedly to be inducted the previous year, but Jann Wenner got it in his head that the time had come to begin inducting rap acts, and through lobbying or fiat, had them bumped in favor of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Dusty Springfield was inducted two weeks after her death, via a speech by Elton John, who had been a frequent visitor to her bedside in her final weeks.

I guess, considering Jethro Tull and The Marshall Tucker Band and Men at Work remain non-members, Thomas will be the first flautist in the Hall. I mean, I'm sure there are folks who played the flute as a sideline in there (Chicago's Walter Parazaider, for one), but Thomas will be the first flute-first guy.
